AS A PRIVATE PERSON YOU CAN NOW DONATE YOUR ALLOTMENT OF SHARES TAX FREE!

Private persons in Sweden who own shares listed on the stock exchange can now donate their allotment of shares without paying taxes. A verdict in the Supreme Administrative Court has made it possible to give your allotment to the Scandinavian Children's Mission’s work. To avoid the taxes the money has to be donated before the decision about the size of the allotment is made at the annual shareholders’ meeting, so look into when the allotment is due on your shares.

What to do

Donations can only be made to non-profit organizations and foundations with non-profit purposes. According to the National Tax Board of Sweden those purposes are for example contributions to education, care for children, aid operations amongst needy and scientific research.

To be able to donate your allotment you need a VP-account. A depot is not enough. Turn to your bank for help.

Remember that the donation must be done before the annual shareholders’ meeting has made a decision about the allotment of the year.

Choose which organization/organizations you would like to donate to as well as which allotment/allotments you are going to donate and how much.

You can make the donation anonymously – the organizations you choose will not know who donated the allotment of shares.
